A warehouse that standardises on the wrong pallet spends the next several years working around it. Locations are lost, beams are derated, and every inbound consignment on a different footprint becomes a handling exception. Getting the specification right once is worth far more than getting it cheap repeatedly.
This guide covers how to specify racking compatible wooden pallets — the sizes in general use in India, the three load ratings you need to quote, how deck configuration interacts with beam racking, and how to plan bulk supply so you are never short.

A pallet quoted at 2,000 kg without qualification is almost always the static figure. On beams the same pallet may be rated at a fraction of that. Ask the question explicitly: what is the racking load, and at what deflection?
There is no single national standard in practice. These are the footprints in common use, and what each tends to suit.

If you are standardising a fleet from scratch, work backwards from three things: your beam pitch, your container mix, and the footprint your largest customer already uses. A wooden pallet that suits all three is worth more than one that is cheaper per unit.
On beam racking the pallet is supported only along two edges, so the bottom deck matters as much as the top. Points to check:
A two way pallet is strong along its bearer axis and suits a fixed orientation. A four way pallet gives handling flexibility and is generally the safer choice for a mixed operation. Where pallets are used from either face, a reversible pallet distributes wear evenly and lasts longer.
A racking load rating is meaningless without a deflection limit. A pallet can technically carry a load while sagging enough to make the location unusable or to foul the level below. Warehouse operators commonly work to a maximum deflection in the region of insert the deflection limit you build to. Ask your supplier what deflection their racking figure corresponds to.
Purchase price is the visible cost. The real cost is price divided by trips, plus the cost of failures. A cheaper pallet that fails in a rack is not cheap.
